The Power of Prayer

It normally takes 18 months for patients to get to where you are today.
My oncologist, Dr. Rushing, at my appointment on May 2nd.
We were three chemo treatments in and he was in complete disbelief when he walked into the room and I informed him I was down to using one crutch to get around.
To what can we attribute this progress? Without any other significant changes, I believe there is one very clear explanation: faithful prayer.
Romans 12:12, teaches us to “be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
Since the end of last year, family and friends have been our faithful prayer warriors and it gives Caleb and I such hope and strength as we go about this journey. The feeling when your doctors face shows signs of (positive) disbelief really can’t be beaten.
When I take the time to reflect on all the progress that has been made over the last few months, there is no doubt in my mind that the faithful prayers we have been blessed to receive have played a direct role in this healing process.
These days, I’m back to being able to help Caleb around the house with more chores, give him a hand in the kitchen, take short family walks in the neighborhood, and all around take bigger and better steps toward doing things that I love. This past month I even managed to cook dinner and bake cookies all in the same evening (insert all the praise hands!).
It is so uplifting to be at this point on the journey. And we’ll continue to celebrate every success that comes our way.
Next week, I begin physical therapy and it is likely to be both rewarding and challenging. So thank you to all the prayer warriors who continue to pray alongside us.
Truth be told, we couldn’t do this without you. It may come as a surprise, or maybe you experience the same thing, but more often than not, it is much easier to remember to pray for our friends and family than for ourselves. It is just one more reason we know your prayers are working – thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
