A Practical Tip to Find Abundance: Have To Versus Get To

What are some practical ways that we can find abundance in our day-to-day lives? For me, it boils down to having tools in my toolbox that keep me centered on what is most important in life. Today, I’m sharing one very simple strategy I implement.
Flip the Script: Have To Versus Get To
On the days I notice my mind drifting in a negative direction, I simply replace the phrase “I have to…” with “I get to…”.
For example, I substitute the thought “I have to pay the bills” with “I get to enjoy electricity and air conditioning this month.”
This simple method of replacing “have to” versus “get to” has helped me shift my perspective to what matters most on the days it doesn’t occur naturally.

The circumstances in our life won’t change by flipping the script, but the way we feel about them will. By flipping the script, I’ve begun to find the good amid some of my life’s most challenging circumstances. Shifting my mindset has transformed obligations into opportunities.
I have to undergo another round of chemo. I get to receive treatment that is shrinking my tumor.
I have to complete my physical therapy exercises day after day. I get to move and strengthen my body.
Maybe your “have to” and “get to” sounds a bit different:
I have to show up for a job I don’t like every day. I get to provide for my family.
I have to deal with a difficult kid. I get to mold and shape the life of a child.
How can you flip the script to find the good in the messy middle of your circumstances? Although the difficult circumstances we face don’t disappear when we flip the script, the perspective shift allows us to find abundance as we seek and find the good.
