Choosing Faith Over Fear

A few weeks ago, I shared about some unexpected struggles I was faced with on Instagram. Specifically, that I needed some extra prayer related to my ankle.

At the time, I didn’t have a lot of information, but now we know a little bit more.

For many many months, I’ve been using both a knee and ankle brace to help slowly stretch my leg back to normal.

My knee has slowly and steadily progressed. My ankle doesn’t seem to want to budge.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working with a PT to mobilize my ankle. Unfortunately, my ankle seems stuck. We’ve been able to make progress, but only to a certain point.

Last week, my PT decided we need to X-ray the ankle before we continue with the mobilization efforts. Essentially, something could be going on that is preventing us from making any more progress. She feels she has done all she can do without more information.

The request for the X-ray was put in last week. For now, we wait for it to be approved.

In the meantime, I’m praying these specific prayers:

  • That the X-ray is approved soon. (Update: Prayer answered! The X-ray was approved and undergone on 5/23.)
  • That what the X-ray reveals is treatable without an invasive procedure (aka surgery).
  • For peace over the outcome.

This is in addition to my ongoing prayer for continued tumor shrinkage and increased mobility of my ankle.

Something I believe with my entire being: I will walk normally again.

And here’s why: God has shown up time and time again throughout this journey. I trust these prayers will be answered like so many before. I recognize they may not be answered to my exact desire, but if they aren’t, then I believe it is because there is an even bigger plan in place.

Recently, after reading through the Gospels back to back, this message was clear: ask God in faith, and He will provide.

Lessons from the fig tree.

“Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen. And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”

Matthew 21:21-22

”Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”

Mark 11:24

Mary visiting Elizabeth.

“And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.”

Luke 1:45

Jesus teaching the disciples to pray.

“And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

Luke 11:9-12

Jesus speaking to the disciples.

“Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give to you. Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask and you will receive, that your joy may be full.”

John 16:23-24

I’m keeping the faith, certain that God will provide.
